Raptor Handlers

The Raptor Handlers of Maryland Raptor Conservancy

Our raptor handlers have the unique knowledge and training to safely handle and display our non-releasable birds of prey.

Malia is a falconer and federal/state permitted raptor rehabilitator who volunteers for Owl Moon Raptor Center.

Since 2017, Nancy has rescued birds of prey, assisted in treating sick and injured raptors, flown rehabbed birds on the creance line to get them ready for release, as well as put up nest boxes and baskets for baby hawks and owls, participated in Northern Saw Whet Owl/Osprey banding programs and does presentations about ospreys on the Chesapeake Bay. Nancy specializes in coordinating fishing line entanglement rescues for raptors trapped high in trees with local tree service companies. Nancy is happiest when she is able to release one of her rescued raptors back into the wild on what she calls "freedom day."

Kaleigh is an Owl Moon Raptor Center volunteer and raptor rescuer.

Christy is a falconer who also volunteers for Owl Moon Raptor Center.

Kristina  has been teaching about birds of prey for more than 15 years. She has served as a naturalist, education specialist, and outreach specialist, presenting engaging programs that connect people with these remarkable animals. Kristina volunteered at Owl Moon Raptor Center from 2014 to 2015 and has continued working with them as a wildlife rescuer on Maryland’s Eastern Shore since 2018. While she has rescued many species of raptors, she is well known for her eagle rescues and is often the first call when one is in need of help. Her work combines hands-on experience with a deep commitment to conservation and public education, inspiring respect and understanding for raptors in every audience she reaches.
